Take a tour to the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, in both the headquarters of Via Nizza and Testaccio!
The tour to the MACRO museum of Rome, acronym for Museum of Contemporary Art, usually begins in the headquarter of via Nizza, in the Salario – Nomentano district of Rome. The building which hosts the MACRO represents a rare example of industrial archeology. It is in fact the former Peroni brewery that, after ceasing its activities in 1974, was handed over to the City of Rome. An architectural renovation plan for the construction of public services for the district took off.
During our tour to the MACRO headquarters in via Nizza, we could admire the dynamic system of multiple articulations and prospects which are the very backbone of the museum. In the tour, is included the visit to the big spaces such as exhibition halls (occupying a total area of 4350 square meters), the foyer, the auditorium and the terrace (or roof garden), all connected by stairways, elevators, walkways and steps, offering tangential perspectives and views in sequence, making the experience of the architecture of the Museum dynamic, attractive, always new and different.
Testaccio, where the second step of our tour of the MACRO will begin, is probably on of the most known district of Rome, characterized by the wealth of cultural and artistic events, aimed particularly at young people.
The headquarters of the museum MACRO in Testaccio has been created within a complex of buildings, dating back to 1800s, which hosted a slaughterhouse (or mattatoio, in italian language). So, it’s not unusual to hear locals referring to the building where the MACRO is hosted as the ex-mattatoio (the former slaughterhouse).
The guided tour of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome includes a range of very varied figures: from the masters of the end of the twentieth century, artists who emerged in the nineties, to the latest generation of Street Art.
