Tour Itinerary

  1. Mausoleo di Cecilia Metella. Our tour begins at the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, one of the most famous and well-preserved funerary monuments of ancient Rome. This mausoleum was built for the daughter of a Roman consul in the 1st century BC and represents a perfect starting point to explore the history and architecture of the Ancient Appian Way.
  2. San Nicola a Capo di Bove. We will cycle to San Nicola at Capo di Bove, an archaeological site hosting the remains of ancient Roman baths. Here we can admire the floor mosaics and learn more about daily life in ancient Rome.
  3. Ancient Section of the Appian Way. We will continue along the ancient section of the Appian Way, known as Regina Viarum (Queen of Roads) for its historical importance and extraordinary beauty. We will cycle among ancient pavements, columns, and ruins, immersing ourselves in a landscape that has retained its charm for millennia.
  4. Villa dei Quintili. Our path will take us to the Villa of the Quintili, one of the largest and most luxurious suburban residences of ancient Rome. This villa belonged to the Quintili brothers and was later confiscated by Emperor Commodus. We will explore its ruins, including thermal baths, reception halls, and gardens, discovering the magnificence of Roman architecture.
  5. Casal Rotondo. Continuing our tour, we will reach Casal Rotondo, a large mausoleum standing imposingly along the Appian Way. This monument, built in the imperial era, offers a spectacular view of the Roman countryside and represents a perfect example of Roman funerary architecture.
  6. Return to the Mausoleo di Cecilia Metella. After reaching Casal Rotondo, we will begin our journey back to the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, cycling again along the Appian Way and enjoying the historical and natural landscape surrounding us. This return route will allow us to further appreciate the beauties and historical testimonies encountered along the way.
