New Year 2021/2022: From the Celio to the Lateran

When: December 31, 2021 9.30 pm

Where: Meeting place in front of the Celio Military Hospital – Piazza Celimontana 50

You are invited to join us for the fifth edition of New Year’s Eve with Aurea Roma.

The evening starts with a toast to 2022 accompanied by finger food (appetizers) and continues with a walking tour to exploring the Celio hill and witness the famous early churches the hill is renowned for. We will admire, only from outside, the basilicas of Santa Maria in Domnica known as “la Navicella”, San Clemente and SS. Coronati.

Walking through via Santo Stefano Rotondo, which follows the route of the ancient Tuscolana Way, we will reach the Lateran, where we will see the Lateran Baptistery, the ancient Egyptian obelisk and the facade of the Papal Archbasilica of the Holy Saviour and Saints John the Baptist and the Evangelist, more commonly known as San Giovanni in Laterano. This is the “mater et caput” of all the churches in Rome and in the world and is the Cathedral of Rome.

On the lawn in front of the basilica, where the traditional “concertone” on May 1st celebrates Labour Day for all workers, Cotechino (a special New Year pork and lentil treat) and traditional confectionery will be served along with a further toast to the New Year.

Cost of the evening: € 40 per person

The visit will take place in English with a minimum of 20 people
