In fact, during the Palazzo Altemps and National Roman Museum tour, we will admire the\u00a0<strong>Greek and Roman statues<\/strong>, which were part of the\u00a0<strong>private collections of noble Roman families of the 16th and 17th centuries<\/strong>. The\u00a0<strong>collection of the Boncompagni family<\/strong>, which is also included in the itinerary of the tour, is the<strong>\u00a0most conspicuous nucleus<\/strong>, and is completed with sculptures from the\u00a0<strong>collections of the Mattei, Del Drago and Altemps<\/strong>.<br>Palazzo Altemps tour is designed in\u00a0<strong>a path covering both floors of the building<\/strong>, around a\u00a0<strong>beautiful courtyard<\/strong>. During the visit on the<strong>\u00a0ground floor<\/strong>, one of the first masterpieces we will meet is the beautiful\u00a0<strong>portrait of Julia<\/strong>, daughter of Titus, and following that the remarkable\u00a0<strong>Athena<\/strong>, which Algardi restored, and the\u00a0<strong>Athena Parthenos<\/strong>, in a sized down copy of the colossal\u00a0<strong>masterpiece of<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Phidias<\/strong>, or the group of\u00a0<strong>Dionysos and satyr<\/strong>, a copy of a Hellenistic original. Before going up the stairs to the main floor, we\u2019ll have an ample view across the main courtyard, completed by Martino Longhi, who also planned the innovative altana, observable outside from Piazza St. Apollinare.<br>In the<strong>\u00a0courtyard fountain<\/strong>\u00a0of Palazzo Altemps, we will identify the\u00a0<strong>marms of the Cardinals<\/strong>, on which stands an ibex rampant, that we find all along the way on the main floor. Here, the tour to Palazzo Altemps continues with the\u00a0<strong>Egyptian collection<\/strong>. In the\u00a0<strong>hall of Moses<\/strong>, the tour continues with the famous\u00a0<strong>Ludovisi Throne<\/strong>, an original piece from Magna-grecia of the 5th century. B.C., depictig the birth of Aphrodite. Once through the\u00a0<strong>bedroom and the Studiolo of the cardinal<\/strong>, we shall overlook the courtyard from the\u00a0<strong>Painted Loggia<\/strong>\u00a0with its leafy pergola, before going into the\u00a0<strong>Sala delle Feste,<\/strong>\u00a0dominated by the\u00a0<strong>Ludovisi sarcophagus<\/strong>, of the 3rd century AD.<br>We end the tour at the Palazzo Altemps and\u00a0<strong>the National Roman Museum in the Church of San Aniceto<\/strong>: built by Giovanni Angelo Altemps in 1617 in order to house the remains of the saint.
